The Plan

The plan.

For the African leg there isn’t what I would call a plan. There’s an A and there’s a B and the plan is to figure out how to get between them. From Mombasa in Kenya to Johannesburg in South Africa by April 2nd.

I arrive in Africa on December 1st and I’ll ride south along the coast with an aim to spend the Christmas period in Zanzibar.

There is a clearer route for the European leg. Istanbul to the Dalmation Coast, up the Dalmation Coast and north across Europe, with a lovely cycle along the Danube on the way.

Easy.

Take into consideration that I don’t know my fenders from my nipples (a specialised nut, apparently) and my cycling experience maxes out at a luxurious foray into France, and you might get an idea of how challenging this bike ride will be for me.

I expect the tour to take 8 months, cost me a small fortune and provide no shortage of sunburn. It should be brilliant.

Hi Jack, just read your post on CS and will be following you with great interest. Completed my first tour a couple of years ago ( just a simple USA Coast to Coast) and can’t wait to be able to afford to go on another.

    good luck

    Hi Jack.

Just found your blog after stopping by your fb page and my immediate thought was “I knew Jack would be doing something amazing and not just mentally withering away in some shop somewhere”, so thanks for not disappointing!!! I love your pictures and shall definitely be following your blog posts for the rest of your trip. I know you will be making the most of the whole thing and wish you all the best in your travels.

    Lots of love

    Steph

Hey! We met in Istanbul (Mavi Guesthouse)….. I meant to get your info so I could follow you, and ended up finding a link from Julia (Germany). I’d love to keep in touch, and feel free to add me on facebook.

I’m in the process of moving to Tanzania and just came across your blog! Oddly, I did a similar bamboo-powered bike trip last summer, from Thailand to Bali! Check it here http://greenriders.asia
    Great work!
