Dhermi

5 May

Dhermi was recommended by several Albanians as a good place to stop. A tourist-ready town right in the middle of the steepest mountain roads. The ride up and down to Dhermi was stunning. I met a French cyclist on his descent. The more demanding the landscape is, the more rewarding the experience, we agreed, like a couple of hard-ons. Axelle had experienced quite enough reward for one day, and hitched a ride. We met a few hours later.

Dhermi turned out to be a pain in the arse. Finding each other, finding the Eco Camping site and owner to be completely shit, finding a decent wild camping site, then washing in the sea in the dark and eventually cooking an unappealing dinner of lentils, rice, tinned fish and herbal bitter on a woodfire, then finding drinking water only available at 2.5euros a bottle was quite demanding. I’m not sure I’d call it rewarding. It was a pain in the arse. We learnt the hard way what happens when you don’t get lucky. That was the reward.
